Susan Oakey grew up in Vancouver and began skiing at Whistler when she was three years old. Art was her favourite subject in high school but she pursued more recession-proof studies in French education and became a language teacher. Her love of the outdoors lead her to a job in outdoor education and certification as a backpacking guide. She has traveled on six of the seven continents and runs a small guiding company. Five years ago, she splurged on a trip to Provence, France where she participated in a six- week oil painting course. The creative bug awoke. Susan lives in Whistler and splits her time as an art workshop junkie, mom to two year-old Sam, wife to Joe, writer and outdoor enthusiast. She works in acrylics, oils, watercolour and pencil. Two of her paintings were recently exhibited at Artrageous 2008. Her most honest paintings portray the things she loves: nature, her friends and family.
