Maeve Bellmore
Exploring how the human figure communicates with its surroundings, in the medium of oil on canvas, on a medium to large scale. I am concerned with creating a pleasurable atmosphere and sensuality by painting emotions through movement and colour, contrasting flat block colours with sumptuous textures. I am concerned with exploring the intimacy echoed in the body language shared between the model and their viewers. Capturing the atmosphere and visually reproducing that intimate moment within the confinements of the canvas. Paintings that offer an emotional connection with my models, being either good friends, or portraits of myself, nude, thus generating a physical presence for the audience.
In my current paintings, I am beginning to introduce wildlife. This revolves around the theme of nature being exposed, as we are when we are naked as humans, so too is nature, in all its raw beauty.
