Chili Thom
Being born and raised in British Columbia has offered Chili an interesting and inspiring life hiking and exploring the vast and beautiful wilderness of the Pacific Northwest. As a small child, he developed a keen interest in the outdoors as well as the arts. At the age of twenty he studied very briefly at the University of British Columbia in Fine Arts. Not finding the guidance he was looking for, Chili decided to return to the wilderness and began exploring acrylic paints. The first inspiration for his work has always been the wilderness. The amazing landscapes of B.C. that he traveled through during his five years as a wilderness guide have left lasting visions from the rugged West Coast of Vancouver Island to the high summits in the B.C. Coastal Range. Chilis travels oversea have also led his art in new directions. Believing diversity to be the best creative inspiration, he took up photography and film making and joined up with local film company Heavy Hitting Films, which allowed him even more access to the great outdoors.
When Chili is not painting or making films, he is spending time digging in the crates and spinning as DJ Mr. Fister. Partnering up with DJ Keph, they formed Super Secret, a DJ tag team destined to take over the scene. With artist Kelsey Nash, Chili formed Shits and Giggles, a local party promotion and décor company, doing a wide variety of themed and ambient enhanced events.
Chili has now lived in Whistler for 9 years, and has been living as an artist for five. The past two years in a row he has been voted peoples choice for "The Best Artist" in the Pique Newsmagazine and is steadily amassing a large client base both locally and internationally. Chili feels "life is absolutely wonderful with all of my time dedicated to the creation of art in many forms."
"By transferring my outlook on life into my painting technique I try to capture the motion and feel of the vent I am painting."
