Sylvia Dolson
As a naturalist, wildlife photographer and freelance writer, Sylvia Dolson spends most of her free time in the company of bears, observing and photographing their natural behaviour in the wild. Sylvia’s passion for photographing bears is equaled only by her quest to create a paradigm shift in people's attitudes toward bears and other wildlife by replacing fear and ignorance with understanding and respect.
Her vision is for a greater coexistence—one in which people and bears live in harmony. Having walked among wild black bears, polar bears and grizzlies, she has gained an ever-increasing appreciation and understanding of all the wilderness and its inhabitants.
Her hope is that her photographic images will reveal the true nature of these wonderful bruins. Sylvia’s coffee-table book: A Whistler Bear Story features 78 stunning color photographs. She is also the author of Bear~ology: Fascinating Bear Facts, Tales & Trivia.
Sylvia has been involved with the Get Bear Smart Society since 1996 and is now the executive director. She and her husband, Steve, live in Whistler, British Columbia, where they share their lives with two canine companions, Samantha and Brandy.
