Mary Ellen Browning
Mary Ellen was encouraged to pick up a camera by her nephew, Matthew, a fine arts graduate in photography from Ryerson in Toronto. Matthew is also a victim of ALS. He had a first showing of his beautiful work in December 2009 and is planning another showing in the near future. "Matthew is my mentor and spiritual guide," says Mary Ellen.
Mary Ellen is inspired by the words of F.H. Varley: "British Columbia is heaven. It trembles within me and pains with its wonder as when a child I first awakened."
Her goal is to awaken the same child wonderment in others through her own visions of British Columbia.
As Mary Ellen continues to explore the riches, vistas and beauty of the Sea to Sky region she hopes to learn more about photography while exploring other regions of British Columbia through the camera lense.
Mary Ellen's work is "unplugged," as she does very little editing of her images.
"My relationship is with the camera and what I see and feel. My goal is to capture the beauty I see and not to distort it into a virtual show. We need all aspects of nature to remind us of what is really beautiful."
