Laurie MacCallum
Laurie MacCallum has been potting for over 10 years, although only seriously the last few years. Laurie is inspired by primitive and historical ceramics and finishes her pieces to reference artifacts found at archeological digs or museums.
She is currently experimenting with a variety of alternative firing methods for her thrown and altered pieces. These unglazed finishes include pit-firing, naked raku (or slip resist) and horsehair technique. Her deconstructed-reconstructed pieces conversely, provide a forum for Laurie to experiment with glazed surfaces.
Laurie graduated from Capilano College’s Studio Arts Program in 1983, and has attended various courses and symposiums at various Vancouver studios, the Shadbolt Centre for Arts, Metchosin Summer School of the Arts, and in Baja, Mexico. Her work is available at Object Design in
