Janice Robertson - Intermediate Acrylics Painting

Course Outline

This course will address the needs of students with some previous acrylic painting experience, as well as those wishing to renew an interest in the medium. This class will focus on improving skills and techniques to help students create paintings that reflect their individual style. Specific lessons will be provided in under painting, blocking in, brushwork and composition.  Participants may choose to work from still life or from their own photos. This class will be tailored to fit the individual levels of students in a creative and positive environment.

Bio

Award winning B.C. based artist, received a number of awards, including the Bronze Medal in the Federation of Canadian Artists Signature Members show, the Margaret and William Foley Award at the 2001 Adirondacks National Exhibition of Watercolors in New York, and the Foreign Award at the Houston Watercolor Society’s exhibition in Texas, 2004.  Her collections can be found as far as Australia, Singapore, Japan, Europe and the United Kingdom.

Course Material

Small sketch book and pencil
A good selection of reference material: photos, sketches or found objects
Several canvases or prepared boards: 9 x 12, 11 x 14, 12 x 16 or larger
Synthetic brushes in a variety of sizes - round and flat
Acrylic paint Acrylic glazing liquid, medium (Golden brand)
Spray bottle for water
Tray or palette for mixing paint
Plastic wrap or plastic bag to cover your paints
Bucket for water
Tissues and paper towels
Apron or shirt to protect your clothes

Basic suggested colors:
Titanium white
Hansa yellow
Quinacridone red
Pthalo blue
*Quinacridone nickel azo gold – this color is essential!
Dioxazine purple
Mars black

Additional colors:
Cad yellow deep
Pyrrole red
Cobalt blue
Cerulean chromium blue
Ultramarine blue
Green gold
Quinacridone burnt orange

*Pack lightly as you must be able to carry your own supplies to the Alta Lake Station House
