Course Outline

In this course, for students with some previous drawing experience, participants will learn to draw with more confidence. Exercises will teach students how to apply visualization so they are able to draw without hesitation. By learning to improve fundamental drawing techniques, students will notice these new skills transfer to all other mediums they work in. Subjects covered include line as contour, positive forms and negative shapes, light and shadow, perspective, proportion, and how they affect composition.

Bio

Canadian award winning artist, his paintings have been featured in magazines and newspapers on a national and international level. His area of expertise is in watercolour, but he is proficient and drawing and painting architectural renderings.  Grant lives in Comox, B.C. where he continues to teach, paint and travel to teach workshops at the request of various art groups.

Course Material

Sketch Book (good quality paper, price is usually a guide, should be acid free, about 9” x 12”)
Mechanical pencil (HB or B lead, any gauge is fine, .05, 07, 09 are all available)
Wooden pencils (HB, B, 2B, one harder pencil such as H or 2H and any others of your choice)
Graphite stick (HB or B, even 2B is good)

Optional drawing Tools: Conte Stick, Charcoal pencil or stick, Carbon Pencil

Paper stump (you can make these yourself or buy them. Its just a piece of paper rolled tightly to about the diameter of a pencil and shaped using sandpaper. They are used to smudge and become well seasoned after much use so they can actually apply tone from their blackened tip.)

Sundry Items (kneaded eraser, plastic eraser, paper towel, utility knife only if you need to sharpen wooden pencils manually, masking tape.)

*Pack lightly as you must be able to carry your own supplies to the Alta Lake Station House
